Besides, I don't think I want to leave town and pick a new wife. Since the endgame is marriage, many Asian cultures women would live with a guardian until marriage at a semi early age, and men would get married when they had the income to support a wife which meant they were usually a bit older, even if it was just by 5 years. While I agree that her new image isn't as good as her one from RF1, she's still my favorite character. I actually kind of think this is more of a Japan/Asia thing. There is honestly no reason Elsje shouldn't be a marriage candidate considering she is in the same boat as Martin taking care of a sibling and seems to be in the correct age range (I gave illiminata a pass in rf4 since as an elf she has alluded to being significantly older and may not look to the main character as an adult and has many times alluded to Margaret the heartbreak of loving humans).
